Number of cases lodged to the Commission has decreased

The following represents the Commission’s statistical data for the first six months of 2014 and 2015. The number of cases lodged to the Commission in 2014 was 416 while 377 cases were lodged for the same period in 2015. This indicates a 9% decrease in the number of cases lodged during the period under review.
All the cases lodged at the Commission are examined under an evaluation process to precede investigations. Based on the number of cases lodged, the number of cases decided for investigation in 2015 is 310 cases and in 2014 it was 440 cases respectively. Subsequently, if any cases lodged do not fall under the mandate of the Commission, such cases are referred to the respective public institution that has the relevant mandate. Likewise, 19 cases were referred to other institutions in 2015 while only 2 cases were referred in 2014.
The Commission dismisses complaints that do not provide sufficient information to process an investigation. Similarly, 89 cases were dismissed in 2015 while 137 cases were dismissed in 2014.
