The Anti-Corruption Commission has decided to issue orders instead of sending letters to government institutes and private individuals in order to collect information and documents required for ongoing cases. The Commission has started issuing its orders from Sunday, 1st November 2015. The Commission has undertaken this action under the authority vested by Section (c), (d) and (e) of Clause 22 of Law Number: 13/2008 (The Anti-Corruption Commission Act).
This action was taken in order to establish an effective system to acquire information and documents related to ongoing cases and to expedite the investigation process.
The Commission will also be taking legal action under Clause 533 of the Law Number: 9/2014 (The Penal Code of Maldives) against parties who refuse to provide information and documents, or who interfere with the official duties of the Commission.
