A ceremony has been held at Dharubaaruge to mark the International Anti-Corruption day by Anti-Corruption Commission of the Maldives. Apart from the chief guest Minister of health, Ms.Iruthisham Adam, commissioners of independent commissions, senior officials of public offices and companies attended the ceremony. Ms.Amintha Minna spoke on behalf of the Commission and she highlighted that money allocated for developmental projects are being lost due to corruption and that the parliament and other public institutions should cooperatively work to recover the loss of corruption. Moreover, Commission launched a report after conducting a corruption risk assessment into the health sector. This report was launched by Minister of Health, Iruthisham Adam. The main aim of this assessment was to identify corruption risks in the recruitment of doctors, nurses and other technical staff. Furthermore, it also focuses on identifying the corruption risks involved in the procurement of medical consumables, reagents and machineries. This research provides a number of recommendations in order to ensure transparency and integrity by assuring that written policies and guidelines are in place for the institutional practices. Speaking in the ceremony, the minister advised to abstain from all acts of corruption and to make the health sector a trustworthy and corruption free area. In the ceremony the Commission’s first quarterly bulletin was launched by President of Human Rights Commission of the Maldives Ms.Aminath Enas. Furthermore, a website for the National Integrity Plan was launched by the Commissioner General of Taxation, Mr. Yazeed Mohamed. Also, in this ceremony the winners of the International Anti-Corruption Day photo contest were announced and the prizes were presented bsy Prosecutor General Ms.Aishath Bisham.
