The first ever event held by the Social Responsibility Movement (AAROA) of independent institutions of Maldives was held on 4 May 2016 in Hulhumale’ Phase II.
The event was organized by Independent Institutions of Maldives in corporation with Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and Pension Administration Office (PAO) as associate partners. The event was financially backed by some public companies of Maldives.
The main purpose of initiating the events of AAROA was to coincide with the commemoration of world Environment Day 2016. The Chief Guest of the event was Minister of Environment and Energy, Hon. Thoriq Ibrahim.
The event was started with the recitation of holy Quran by the President of Elections Commission (EC) of Maldives, Al-Shaikh Ahmed Sulaimaan, followed by an introduction of the event by President of Civil Service Commission (CSC), Dr. Ali Shameem. He noted that the main aim of AAROA is to come together for the benefit of the society and to carry out different activities for this important purpose. There were additional speakers at the event such as;
The Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation Mr. Mohamed Saiman emphasized their effort in ensuring that Hulhumalé Phase II as a green and clean city.
The Chief Guest, Minister of Environment and Energy highlighted the importance given by the government in environment-friendly development and regulation of protection of endangered species in the Maldives.
In this event, a pledge to protect environment was signed by all the heads of the Independent Institutions of the Maldives. Nearly 1200 trees were planted by staff of 13 independent institutions along with MPAO and HDC.
The event was concluded with a “maahefun” (a feast to mark beginning of the holy month of Ramadan).
