ACC has forwarded its proposed amendments to Law number 13/2008 (Anti-Corruption Commission Act) to the Attorney General’s Office on 23rd June 2016.
The 68 amendments proposed to the Act entail the experiences and challenges faced by the Commission in the exercise of its investigative functions, and the recent developments in the criminal justice system of the Maldives following the implementation of the new Penal Code of Maldives.
The amendments relate to the authorities vested in the Commission, the responsibilities and the mandate. Some notable amendments include the authority to hold custodial investigations, authority to take measures to order for a temporary restriction on the performance of certain actions or events during investigations, authority to recover proceeds of corruption, authority to review the means of income and assets of public officials and the authority to conduct special operations.
