During the first six months of this year, 408 cases has been registered at the Commission. The number of cases registered during the second quarter of 2016 dropped to 189 in comparison to 204 cases that were registered for the same period in 2015. This indicates a 7% decrease in the number of cases registered during the period under review.
All the cases registered at the Commission are examined under an evaluation process to precede investigations. Based on the number of cases registered, 159 cases were decided to investigate in the second quarter of 2016 while it was 155 cases in 2015 respectively. Subsequently, if any cases lodged do not fall under the mandate of the Commission, such cases are referred to the respective public institution that has the relevant mandate. Likewise, 11 cases were referred to other institutions in the second quarter of 2016 while 17 cases were referred in 2015.
The Commission dismisses complaints that do not provide sufficient information to process an investigation. Similarly, 19 cases were dismissed in the second quarter of 2016 while 45 cases were dismissed in the same period of 2015.
