Anti-Corruption Commission issued a report after conducting a corruption perception survey at Gn. Fuvahmulah. This report was released by the Chairman of ACC, Mr. Hassan Luthfee in the special ceremony held on 12 December 2016, at the training hall of the Auditor General’s Office.
Speaking in the ceremony, Mr. Luthfee highlighted on the comparatively rapid increase of the usage of technology and cybercrime in the offences of corruption. He noted that the Commission needs to increase the employment of modern tools in conducting investigations and awareness activities. Furthermore, the Chairman expressed gratitude for those who assisted in conducting the survey and especially for the residents of Fuvahmulah for their invaluable contributions.
This survey was conducted through administration of questionnaires at households visited in the door to door campaign held to mark the National Anti-Corruption Day 2016 in Fuvahmulah. The target age group for the survey was above 15 years.
Most survey participants in the survey consisted of unemployed household caretakers who were commonly women. Some notable findings of the survey highlights indicate that majority of respondents knew and understood corruption and integrity. In addition to this, most participants viewed that ‘strengthening the religious beliefs in the community’ is the key to eliminate corruption from the Maldives. The survey results also indicate that executive power, citizens and ACC can collaboratively play the most important role in eradicating corruption from the country.
ACC is committed to use the key findings of this survey as evidence to review and strengthen education and awareness strategies. Apart from the Chairman, Commission members, Secretary General and staff of ACC were present at the ceremony.
