The recommendations provided by the Anti-Corruption Commission with regard to corruption actions of the by public institutions should be regarded as more than merely just a statement, said Mr. Hassan Luthfee, President of the Anti-Corruption Commission. The President highlighted this in the supplement released on the occasion of the International Anti-Corruption Day 2016 marked on 09th December.
While highlighting on the nationwide project developed by the ACC to promote integrity, and expressing his optimism that the initiatives will restore the public’s faith in the system and achieve remarkable results, the President also stated that ACC works to eliminate corruption within public institutions by promoting transparency and accountability thereby fostering integrity in the society.
Mr.Luthfee also stated that ACC has previously urged relevant authorities to compose the legal framework required for the operation of the Commission. He further said that the ACC wants to criminalize illicit enrichment and to draft laws in a way that burden of proof lies on the person who acquires illicit enrichment and to grant legal authority for the Commission to investigate matters regarding corruption while the suspect remains detained.
Lastly, in his address the President reiterated that the recommendations of the ACC should be respected and acted upon by all public institutions. He mentioned that although corruption allegations are properly investigated unless the cases are prosecuted, tried and penalized accordingly, the Commission’s effort remains unaccomplished.
