Anti-Corruption Commission has completed a case lodged in the commission alleging that undue advantage was provided in the distribution of the 50 metric ton of dates donated to Maldives by Saudi Government for the Holy month of Ramadan, 1437.
However, after the investigation, it was observed that 500 boxes from the dates donated by Saudi Government were handed over to “Mulee Aage” as per their request and were distributed to the beneficiaries through parties that had expressed interest in the matter, in order to deliver the dates promptly. Thus, our investigation was concluded as it was proved that there were no undue advantages provided to a third party, or undue advantage gained by any party involved.
However, since the Commission receives several complaints that foreign aids and other such donations received to Maldivian Government to be distributed to the people are distributed in a manner that creates dispute among people, the Commission has urged the Ministry of Finance and Treasury to implement a policy to manage distributions of donations and foreign aids to people through other institutions or clubs or foundations.
