In 2016, The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has conducted investigations on 151 cases belonging to atolls. These investigations were carried out by investigation teams that were dispatched to atolls during the year. This number was a 73.6% decline compared to the 573 cases that were investigated in 2015.
8 teams from ACC had traveled to 7 atolls to investigate allegations of corruption in those atolls. However, in 2015, ACC dispatched 23 investigation teams for 20 atolls. In 2016, 316 statements were taken from 250 people summoned in investigation trips. In 2015, 1590 statements were taken from 1313 people summoned in investigation trips.
The reason for the decline in number of investigations conducted in atolls in 2016 is due to lack of budgets available in ACC budget for investigation trips.
