The ACC has organized the first ever National Anti-Corruption Conference in Maldives which was held on 10th -11th May 2017 at the Conference Hall of the Islamic University of Maldives. The event was organized in collaboration with Islamic University of Maldives. The event was financially backed by the title sponsor FENAKA Corporation, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), Public Service Media (PSM) and several public companies as associate partners.
The main purpose of this conference was to facilitate a platform for discussions on existing challenges and solutions for rapid conclusion of corruption related issues between law enforcement institutions and fostering a culture of integrity to fight against corruption with stakeholder participation and engagement through research.
The Chief Guest of the opening ceremony was the Vice President of Maldives, Mr.Abdulla Jihad. Speaking at the ceremony he said that the government will not let corruption cast a shadow on any State affair, in its high speed developmental evolvement. At the conference a total of eleven papers were presented by ten institutions together with ACC. These include Attorney General’s Office, Maldives Monetary Authority, Auditor General’s Office, Prosecutor General’s Office, Civil Service Commission, Maldives Police Service, Islamic University of Maldives, Information Commissioners Office and FENAKA Corporation. Representatives of these institutions as well as other independent institutions participated in the conference as observers.
At the closing ceremony, the Information Commissioner, Mr.Abdul Azeez Jamal Abubakuru emphasized the results of the conference and observed that the conference confirmed to the international standards. In conclusion, stakeholders deliberated on the official declaration whereby they agreed on eleven recommendations at a consensus. The event was concluded with the giving away of plaques and certificates to various parties involved in accomplishing the event.
