PG Office submits paper on challenges in prosecuting cases of corruption

The Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office) has presented a paper during the National Anti-Corruption Conference, detailing on the challenges faced in prosecuting and proving cases against perpetrators of corruption.

One of the main objectives of PG Office’s presentation was to identify factors that obstruct legal proceedings in cases related to corruption, and challenges to conviction in such cases. Moreover, the presenters provided a list of reasons which cause delays in prosecution, while also noting certain requirements that need to be fulfilled to strengthen investigations and discussing ways on how those requirements can be achieved to resolve issues that arise in prosecuting and proving the charge of the defendant.

In addition, the presentation also highlighted on some situations that could defeat the case against the State, such as delay in providing to the accused party, the individual rights established under Article 48 of the Constitution during the investigation stage, and non-compliance to the procedural rules of obtaining evidence from the defendant.
