“Development must come to Maldives in the absence of corruption”, stated by Mr. Abdulla Jihad, the Vice-President of the Maldives.
As the Chief Guest, the Vice-President delivered this statement during the inauguration ceremony at the first National Anti-Corruption Conference held today (10th May 2017) at the Islamic University of the Maldives (IUM). The conference is a joint project initiated by ACC and IUM to open discussions with law enforcement authorities and public institutions that are responsible for criminalizing and preventing corruption.
In his speech, the Vice-President assured that the present day government would not hesitate in investigating matters of corruption and taking legal action against perpetrators of such crimes with fairness and impartiality. Furthermore, he highlighted on the importance of government offices to act with integrity in accordance with the legal mandates and responsibilities in order to ensure public confidence and to provide timely and responsible services with transparency and accountability.
The duration of the Conference will be two days and government offices responsible for law enforcement will participate in the conference by submitting papers on overcoming the challenges faced in the course of preventing corruption.
