ACC conducts a Social Audit Program in Fuvahmulaku City

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) conducted a Social Audit Programme in Gn. Fuvahmulaku City from 13th – 15th November 2017. The programme was initiated by ACC with partial funding from United Nations Development Program (UNDP) under UNDP’s Integrated Governance Programme, Phase II, output 1.2, to support implementation of ACCs National Integrity Plan (NIP).

The Social Audit program was aimed at creating awareness on the concept of social accountability and related concepts as well as social accountability tools, mainly focusing on facilitating how to conduct a social audit on developmental projects, to ensure transparency and accountability. The program included a training program for members of NGOs, a social audit pilot study and awareness for public officials.

The NGO training was held on 13th November 2017 and was attended by 19 members from 5 different NGOs. Among them, 15 participants engaged in the Social Audit Pilot study activities that included a community survey, focus group interviews with City council and Protected Area Management Unit (P.A.M.U) and a site visit to the project area. The Social Audit Pilot study was conducted on the project of Eco Facility Development in Fuvahmulaku City.

The activities of the pilot study commenced on 14th November 2017, with the administration of Community Survey, followed by a focus group Interview of city council. Furthermore, a Public Official’s awareness session was conducted in the evening of 14th November. A total of 23 participants from 15 different institutions attended this session. The focused group interview and site visit for the pilot study was carried out in the morning of 15th November 2017.

Finally, the closing ceremony for the program was held in the evening of 15th November 2017 at the City Council Hall (Kurun’dhuma Maalan). The Chief Guest of the ceremony was the city’s mayor, Mr. Abdullah Falah Shareef and ACC’s Chairman Mr. Hassan Luthfy, Secretary General Mr. Abdullah Rasheed, Asst. Auditor General Mr. Ibrahim Aiman and several other senior officials of the City council attended the ceremony. All the participants i.e. NGO trainees and Public Officials’ were presented with a certificate of participation in this ceremony. Additionally, in order to appreciate the committed contributions of the management of the City Council, an award was presented to them by the ACCs Chairman.
