A training program on social audit has been conducted to the NGOs in Fuvahmulaku City. The program was conducted on 13th November 2017 at kurun’dhuma maalan (Fuvahmulaku City Hall).
The Social Audit program was aimed at creating awareness on the concept of social accountability and related concepts as well as social accountability tools, mainly focusing on facilitating how to conduct a social audit to ensure transparency and accountability OF developmental projects. A brief opening ceremony was conducted at kurun’dhuma maalan to commence the activities of social audit program. In this ceremony, ACC’s Chairman Mr. Hassan Luthfy, Mayor of Fuvahmulaku City Mr. Abdullah Falah Shareef and Asst. Auditor General Mr. Aiman Ibrahim addressed the participants about the importance of social accountability and community participation in such matters.
The training program consisted of two sessions in which the first session focused on delivering information about social accountability and related concepts as well as the Right to Information Act of Maldives. The second session focused on explaining social audit and how to conduct a social audit of a project. A total of 19 participants from five different NGOs participated in this training. The training sessions were also attended by the City’s Mayor Mr. Falah Shareef and Asst. Auditor General Mr. Ibrahim Aiman.
The social audit pilot program was focused on the project of Eco-facility development in Fuvahmulaku City. The Training program was targeted to the active NGOs in Fuvahmulaku City, in order to support capacity development as well as increase their participation in exacting accountability and transparency in developmental projects and other public policies.
Facilitators of this training program were Asst. Director Mr. Hassan Manik, Asst. Research Officer Ms. Aishath Manaal Khalid and Asst. Research Officer Ms. Fathimath Shaina.
