Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) has registered a total of 280 cases in the fourth quarter of 2018.
ACC’s statistical data revealed that the number of cases registered at the Commission during the first quarter of 2018 rose by 2.19% in comparison to the cases that were registered for the same period in 2017. The commission has registered a total of 280 cases amongst, 162 cases were reported by different sources and 118 cases were initiated by Commission members. During the same period in 2017, a total of 281 cases were registered respectively.
All the cases registered at the Commission are examined under an evaluation process to precede investigations. Based on the number of cases registered, 248 cases were decided to investigate in the first quarter of 2018 while the figure remained same in 2017 too.
Subsequently, if any cases lodged do not fall under the mandate of the Commission, such cases are referred to the respective public institution that has the relevant mandate. Likewise, 16 cases were referred to other institutions in 2018 while 20 cases were referred in 2017.
The Commission dismisses complaints that do not fall under the mandate of the Commission or provide sufficient information to process an investigation. Similarly, 36 cases were dismissed in 2018 while 34 cases were dismissed in 2017.
